Michael Schur was inspired to create "A Man On the Inside" after watching the Chilean documentary "The Mole Agent"
Charles, a retired man, gets a new lease on life when he answers an ad for a private investigator and becomes a mole in an undercover investigation at a nursing home. He says, "The Mole Agent" documentary is powerful because it makes people feel incredibly similar regardless of age, ethnicity, or gender, and I would describe that feeling in a very reduced way as, “I have to call my mom.”" We tried to do a similar thing with our show with the tone: Basically, does our show contribute to that feeling of wanting to call mom?.
Remake of The Mole Agent (2020)
I’m 67 and it was so wonderful to see so many of our generation of actors and their great comedic styles. These actors only get better with age and they did a great job in this sweet comedy series!
That’s okay because about halfway through you have a pretty good idea who the culprit is
The script gets a little lost trying to solve the mystery and gets deeper with the characters’ stories. It doesn’t really matter that it’s not really a mystery because you’re just having fun watching these golden old ladies do their thing and show off.
It’s really not a mystery
Just an acknowledgement of how brave it is to be a senior citizen and still be active and feel seen in our youth-centric society. What a sweet tribute to those who have supported us and helped us navigate the minefields of aging this series was.
