England, 1875
A century after Victor Frankenstein’s failed experiment, his diaries have changed hands for decades. William and Liza mention Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, but the film is set in 1875, 12 years before the publication of the first Holmes story, but this may be a joking reference implying that Holmes and Watson are real people.
Frankenstein Legacy offers a new entry in the Frankenstein saga
The story is captivating, intriguing and touches on the obsession of bringing the dead back to life, no matter what the cost. The film goes over its budget (just like director Paul Dudbridge’s other gothic adventure, “Fear the Invisible Man”). The scenography, costumes and locations are true to that period.
The performances are solid and dedicated
There is a great soundtrack and some fantastic visual effects (great mouse). There are some fantastic scenes that are beautifully captured by the camera, making the most of the breathtaking locations. Paul Dudbridge has produced another solid feature, offering a fresh take on classic material.
The story fits well into the saga and is a fun introduction
There is confidence in the direction and it highlights the performances of the lead actors. What you get here is a solid take on the legend of Frankenstein. The look and tone are perfect, and the final climax packs an emotional punch.
